In December, high school students from Honor Ridge Academy traveled to New York City for a matinee performance of Wiesenthal, the one-man play based on the true-life story of Holocaust survivor Simon Weisenthal.
“The play was a great education for our students on the Holocaust,” said Honor Ridge Principal Maria Torres. “The lessons they learned during this 90-minute play will stay with for many years to come.”
Born in the Ukraine in 1908, Weisenthal was shuttled among several Nazi concentration camps during World War II. He survived and dedicated the rest of his life to brining Nazi war criminals to justice.
Among the tales recounted in the play are the pursuit of Franz Stangl, the former commandant of the Treblinka death camp, and the hunt for the SS officer who arrested diarist Anne Frank.
